Choosing the Right Siding
Three decisions, and they affect price and appearance differently.

Grade
Builder-grade is thin and prices accordingly. Standard residential is what most replacements use. Insulated vinyl adds a foam backing behind the panel, which costs more up front and does more for the wall than siding alone.

Profile
Horizontal lap is the default and the most affordable. Shake and board-and-batten cost more per square foot and are usually used on gables and accent walls rather than a whole elevation.

Color
Darker colors show fading sooner on south and west walls. That's a real tradeoff, not a reason to avoid them — worth knowing before you pick.
